Presidential Advisory Council member Dr Shingi Munyeza says Trade Unions are no longer useful due to the technological advancement that is taken place in various industries.

Said Munyeza, "We all must be worried in this age of robotics and artificial intelligence. Labor unions have to come up with a different approach to deal with this disruption

"In this era of artificial intelligence labor unions have to change strategy as workers will be laid off due to skill replacement by robots and artificial intelligence. Brace up for retrenchments at a global scale as robots and artificial intelligence take over."

Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions however disputed Munyeza's assertion and said nations will always rely on unions.

"But UNIONS will not die. In fact most nations will rely on unions to do what governments maybe limited to do. We must see new sets of regulations especially those that promote union collective power for unions to carry out their redistribution role effectively," ZCTU said.
