The Tsholotsho - Zibalongwe Secondary Community Project (ZSP) says it has completed the construction of the first classroom block as part of its vision to build a secondary school.
The project started in January 2017.
In a press release on Friday Zibalongwe Community says, "For decades, the community has been longing to have a secondary school at Zibalongwe under Tsholotsho Rural District without success. It took us, the local community too long to realize that waiting for someone to come and develop the area for us was not the best way out of our predicament of not having proper access to secondary education. Locals came together and volunteered to take on the project with the small resources that we managed to gather on a monthly basis. Considering the fact that we are a rural community, which has no viable economic activity this, was not an easy task, but we were determined."
The community says since 2017, the school enrolment has been on the increase and they have over 200 students.
The first double classroom block was built up to gable level, with major funding from the local monthly contributions by the community and the greatest external intervention in this new secondary school construction came at the end December of 2018 through the Australian Government under the Direct AID Program (DAP).
A total grant of USD 9 988.00 was availed to the Zibalongwe Rural Community in Tsholotsho district, Zimbabwe for the double classroom block roofing and other completion materials/accessories up to painting. In the history of this project, this grant managed to help the community move to another level in its quest to develop and empower the locals through education.
