Mnangagwa sets date for by-elections

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has set March 26 as the date for holding by-elections in 28 constituencies.

In a proclamation this Thursday, the President also declared January 26 as the nomination date ahead of the by-elections.

Some seats fell vacant following the recalling of legislators, while some were due to death and Gokwe South constituency fell vacant following the deployment of Victor Matemadanda to the diplomatic mission.

"The seats of members of Parliament for Pumula, Nkulumane, Epworth, Glen Norah, Harare Central, High fi eld East, High fi eld West, Kuwadzana East, Kuwadzana, Mufakose, St Marys, Glen View North, Kambuzuma, Harare East, Dangamvura-Chikanga, Mutasa South, Marondera Central, Marondera East, Murewa South, Chivi South, Mwenezi East, Binga North, Tsholotsho South, Mkoba, Kwekwe, Mbizo, Mberengwa South and Gokwe Central have become vacant.

They have become vacant "by reason of members of the National Assembly having ceased to belong to a political party which they were members when elected to the National Assembly, by reason of the death of the members of the National Assembly and by reason of appointment of a member to another post," reads the proclamation by the President.
