A Civic group, Padare/ Enkundleni men's forum on gender has celebrated the protection of minors on the marriage bill.
Padare/Enkundleni men's forum on gender Programmes officer Ziphongezipho Ndebele said lobola negotiations is an African culture that is practiced, out of love and to cement relations.
"As an organization, we are waiting for the marriage bill to be passed as a law. We celebrate the fact that it protects the rights of children and we are happy that no child below 18 will be married off," he said.
"Issues of lobola are part of our culture we love, for marriage to take place certain processes have to be conducted. If we love our culture, bride price payment shouldn't hinder lovers from getting married.
Ndebele said if lovers and the families involved agree on the procedures to be conducted towards joining the two families they are free to do it the way they want.
"Bride price payment shouldn't be a law that will convict people but should be viewed as celebration of love and joining the two families," he said.
