The Chevron's fielding coach Shepherd Makunura has died at the age of 46 after suffering a long illness.
The sportsman reportedly missed out on the ICC world cup that was held between October and November due to ill health. Makunura reportedly passed on yesterday morning at the West End hospital in Harare.
Zimbabwe Cricket posted an emotional message on Twitter mourning his passing: "We have lost one of our very best coaches, an unsung hero of our game who has been instrumental in the unearthing and nurturing of many of Zimbabwe's talented players. - ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni. #RIPShepherdMakunura".
The managing director also described the late Makunura as a wonderful person and one of the best coaches who was instrumental in unearthing and nurturing talent.
The right-arm off-breaker was currently the head coach of Masvingo-based Southern Rocks, where he worked with some of Zimbabwe's leading cricketers like Sikandar Raza, Blessing Muzarabani, and Roy Kaia among others.
Shepherd Makunura leaves behind his wife, Sinikiwe Mpofu, a former Zimbabwe international cricketer who is the Zimbabwe senior women's national team assistant coach, and two children.
