War vets pledge loyalty to Zanu-PF

Douglas Mahiya, Secretary for the War Veterans League, emphasized the league's dedication to fostering the enduring growth of the ruling Zanu-PF party.

Addressing the inaugural two-day War Veterans League National Assembly meeting in Harare, Mahiya highlighted the league's role as a genuine platform for war veterans to contribute to the party's advancement. Over 600 war veterans, ex-political prisoners, detainees, and restrictees attended the gathering.

"Since its establishment in 2022, the league has been diligently working to activate its structures, educating members on their constitutional responsibilities, and fostering collaboration with other party wings," stated Mahiya.

He underscored the league's collaboration with the Women's and Youth Leagues to develop a robust mobilization strategy for the party's continuous expansion. Mahiya stressed the league's mandate to mobilize war veterans for active involvement in party politics and announced plans for a comprehensive membership census from the grassroots level.

Furthermore, Mahiya expressed the league's commitment to fortifying Zanu-PF's visibility and vibrancy in the face of external threats. He warned against attempts by external forces to undermine the party and pledged the league's vigilance in countering such efforts.

Supporting the ongoing efforts to enact the Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill, Mahiya also addressed concerns regarding the misuse of social media platforms by dissenting voices. He emphasized the league's nationwide campaign to promote party loyalty and discipline among members.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga emphasized the importance of unity among war veterans in upholding the country's liberation ethos and heritage. He called for the continued dedication of war veterans towards achieving the President's vision of national development.

VP Kembo Mohadi praised the unwavering spirit and sacrifices of war veterans, highlighting their leadership role in community development and national progress. He affirmed the party and government's appreciation of their contributions.

Zanu-PF national chairman Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri echoed the call for unity among war veterans, emphasizing its significance for the party's sustained growth.

This assembly marks the War Veterans League's first National Assembly since its elevation from an affiliate to a fully-fledged wing of Zanu-PF in 2022.
