Test runs at the massive US$1.5 billion Manhize steel plant near Mvuma were highly successful over the weekend, setting the stage for operations to begin next month.
The company announced that tests on five critical components of the plant were successful, confirming their readiness for production. These components include the thermal power stations, blast furnace, sintering plant, limestone processing plant, and the oxygen plant, all of which were functioning optimally.
Additionally, the construction of an electricity substation has been completed. Last week, Dinson Iron and Steel Company (Disco) activated its limestone production unit to prepare for the power-up of the entire plant, initiating tests that started on Friday.
Disco's public relations manager, Joseph Shoko, confirmed that operations are set to begin in mid-June.
