Police recover stolen Boer goats
4 hrs ago | Views
Police in Mashonaland East have launched a manhunt for a suspect who stole nine Boer goats from a farm in Beatrice on Sunday. The suspect reportedly gained entry to the farm by cutting through the security fence before loading the stolen goats into a Nissan AD van.
While conducting night patrols along the Harare-Masvingo highway, police intercepted the suspect, who had parked the vehicle on the roadside. However, he fled into nearby bushes, disappearing into the darkness before authorities could apprehend him or search the vehicle.
The stolen goats were later identified by their owner, Mr. Onias Sanangura (44), after photos of the animals were shared by police in a farmers' WhatsApp group. Mr. Sanangura sent his farm manager to Beatrice Police Station, where she positively identified the animals.
Mashonaland East police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the incident.
“The police recovered the vehicle and the goats and took them to ZRP Beatrice,” Inspector Chazovachiyi said. “We appeal to farmers to brand or ear-tag their livestock for easier identification. We also encourage them to join neighborhood watch committees to patrol and safeguard their property. Additionally, we urge them to report such cases promptly to the police.”
The recovery of the goats has been commended, but police are intensifying efforts to locate the suspect. Farmers in the area are encouraged to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to secure their livestock.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges with rural theft and the importance of cooperative efforts between law enforcement and the farming community to prevent crime.
