A 29-year-old man from Ruwa has been arrested for allegedly killing his stepfather following a dispute over a maize field in the Mabvazuva area.

The incident occurred on Saturday and involved 37-year-old Kudakwashe Maramwidze, who died after sustaining severe head injuries during an argument with his stepson, George Musekiwa.

Police allege that Musekiwa struck Maramwidze on the head with a hoe while the two were working together in the maize field. The disagreement is said to have escalated suddenly, with fatal consequences.

Maramwidze was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission. His body is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police have opened a murder investigation under case number RRB 6489639.

The deceased's wife, Chengeto Musekiwa, said the family was still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

"We are devastated by this tragic event. We still do not understand why George chose to attack his father," she said.

"They were weeding together when the misunderstanding escalated. We are still in shock and have not made any burial arrangements."

Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
