Fourteen villagers have been arrested in Mhondoro-Ngezi, Mashonaland West, after allegedly blocking the enrolment of pupils at St Mark's Secondary School, accusing the institution of prioritising "outsiders" ahead of local children.

The suspects are said to have confronted school authorities during the enrolment process, insisting that the boarding school should give first preference to learners from the surrounding community rather than admitting students from outside the district.

The incident reportedly disrupted normal enrolment procedures and prompted the involvement of police.

Mashonaland West acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Belinda Nyazira confirmed the arrests, saying investigations were underway.

Police said the villagers are facing charges related to obstructing the lawful operations of the school and causing public disorder.

Authorities have urged communities to resolve disputes through proper channels, warning against taking the law into their own hands. Meanwhile, education officials have not yet commented on whether enrolment at the school has fully resumed following the incident.
