Green Horse bus crashes near Mbembesi bridge

Several passengers were injured on Sunday afternoon when a long-distance bus operated by Green Horse Bus Services lost control and landed on its side along the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Road.

As of Sunday evening, no fatalities had been reported, according to information obtained by Zimpapers from a source at the scene.

A member of the public who witnessed the accident said he came across the crash while driving along the busy highway near Mbembesi Bridge after Insiza.

"The bus is lying on its side just before Mbembesi Bridge on the way to the Phulula area along the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Road. A number of passengers are injured, but from what we can see at the crash site, no one has died. The bus was headed to St Paul's in Lupane," said the source.

Emergency services and passers-by were seen assisting injured passengers as authorities assessed the situation.

Photos from the crash site suggest the accident occurred on a detour along the highway, which is currently undergoing extensive rehabilitation by several contractors. The roadworks have resulted in temporary diversions in some sections, potentially increasing the risk of accidents.

Traffic was reportedly affected following the crash as motorists slowed down near the scene. Further details regarding the cause of the accident and the condition of the injured passengers were yet to be confirmed at the time of publication.
