A prominent Harare businesswoman, Precious Bayayi Maindidze, has been granted a protection order against her husband, Tawanda Maindidze, following allegations of harassment, physical assault and verbal abuse.

The order was issued by the Harare Civil Court on Tuesday, with Magistrate Janemary Makonye ruling in favour of Mrs Maindidze.

The protection order bars Mr Maindidze from harassing, threatening, or physically and verbally abusing his wife.

In her testimony, Mrs Maindidze told the court she had endured ongoing emotional and physical abuse, which she said had escalated in recent weeks.

"He emotionally and physically abuses me, calling me all sorts of names," she said.

She further alleged that her husband would assault her during disputes, recounting a recent incident in which she sustained injuries.

"He pushed me against the wall and viciously assaulted me. My eye was badly swollen and I now fear for my life," she said.

Mrs Maindidze told the court she now lives in fear due to repeated threats and intimidation, prompting her to seek legal protection.

In response, Mr Maindidze denied the allegations and indicated he would file a counterclaim. He told the court that the marriage had long been troubled.

"I haven't known peace for a long time. She is very dramatic and provocative," he said.

He attributed the couple's problems to alleged infidelity by his wife and said he intended to pursue the matter further through the courts.

After hearing submissions from both parties, the court granted the protection order in favour of Mrs Maindidze, citing concerns over her safety and wellbeing.

The ruling means Mr Maindidze is legally prohibited from any form of harassment or abuse, with authorities expected to take action should the order be violated.

The case highlights ongoing concerns around domestic disputes and the use of protection orders as a legal safeguard for individuals facing alleged abuse.
