Police are searching for a Chimanimani man based in South Africa after he allegedly shot and seriously injured three people, including his wife, following a domestic dispute on Independence Day.

The suspect, Francis Makuma Magirayano (30), is accused of opening fire at Kopa Business Centre in Chimanimani shortly after returning from South Africa, where he is believed to have been living.

The victims include his wife, Mercyline Mahembe (26), his sister-in-law, and a shopkeeper. All three are currently admitted to hospital in Chipinge receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that a manhunt is underway.

"The ZRP is still appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of Francis Makuma Magirayano, aged 30, who is wanted in connection with a case of attempted murder which occurred on April 18, 2026, in Chimanimani," he said.

Police allege that Magirayano used a firearm to shoot the victims during a domestic altercation involving his wife.

He is believed to have fled the scene in a silver Toyota Fortuner with registration number JV 70 SM GP.

Authorities have urged members of the public to assist with information that may lead to his arrest, encouraging tip-offs through police hotlines and nearest stations.

The case has been classified as attempted murder, and investigations are ongoing as police continue tracking the suspect's movements.
