Allegations of drug dealing involving members of staff at Tafara High School in Ward 20, Bikita East, have sparked concern among parents, learners and the local community.

Sources close to the school claim that a member of staff was questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in January over allegations linked to the sale of marijuana.

According to the sources, the teacher spent a day in police custody before being released.

The allegations have raised fresh concerns about the possible presence of drugs within the school environment, with sources further claiming that drug-related activities may still be taking place.

Some community members allege that certain staff members could be aware of the suspected activities but have not reported the matter to law enforcement authorities.

There are also claims that drugs are being supplied to businesses operating near the school, although these allegations have not been independently verified.

When contacted for comment, Tafara High School Deputy Head Mrs Netsai Mawanza said she was unaware of the allegations.

"I am not aware of that and I do not know anything about it," she said.

School Head Mr Tafuma Mamutse also denied having any knowledge of the alleged activities.

"I don't know about that. Our Deputy Head is a lady and I don't think she can be doing that," said Mamutse.

"We have projects that we are doing at the school and they are supervised by the Geography teacher and the Deputy Head. I think people are just jealous of them."

No official statement has been issued by the police regarding the allegations, and no charges have been announced in connection with the matter.

The allegations come amid growing national concern over drug and substance abuse, particularly among young people, with authorities continuing to urge communities to report suspected drug-related activities to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
