A 45-year-old Chitungwiza man was allegedly sexually assaulted and robbed by three women after being lured into a vehicle while travelling from Harare to Chitungwiza on Sunday, police have confirmed.

According to police, the complainant boarded a blue Honda Fit operating as a mushikashika taxi in Harare's central business district, believing it was heading to Chitungwiza.

The vehicle reportedly had a driver and three female passengers on board.

During the journey, the women allegedly began making unwanted sexual advances towards the man. Police said the suspects unzipped the complainant's trousers and attempted to seduce him while the vehicle was still moving.

Upon reaching the corner of Seke Road and Delport Road, the driver allegedly pulled off the road. Police say two of the women then took turns engaging in sexual acts with the complainant without his consent.

Investigators recovered condoms allegedly used during the incident, which contained semen and are expected to form part of the evidence in the case.

After the alleged assault, the suspects reportedly stole the victim's Samsung cellphone and US$20 in cash before forcing him out of the vehicle. The car then sped off towards Chitungwiza.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.

"The complainant was referred to Chitungwiza Central Hospital for medical examinations," said Insp Chakanza.

Police have urged members of the public to exercise caution when using unregistered public transport and to avoid boarding illegal mushikashika vehicles, which have increasingly been linked to robbery and other criminal activities.

Authorities have appealed to anyone with information that could assist in identifying the suspects or the vehicle involved to contact the nearest police station.
