Munetsi commits to Wolves' promotion push

Marshall Munetsi has committed his future to Wolverhampton Wanderers, ending speculation over a summer departure as he prepares to lead the club's bid for an immediate return to the Premier League.
The Zimbabwe vice-captain has opted to remain at Molineux under new head coach César Peixoto after a successful loan spell in France restored both his confidence and form.
Munetsi, 30, had appeared destined to leave Wolves following the club's relegation from the Premier League. Seeking regular football, he joined Paris FC on loan in January and quickly became one of the French club's standout performers.
The midfielder scored four goals in 15 Ligue 1 appearances as Paris FC secured top-flight survival and also played a key role in a memorable derby victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
"I don't know why, but I always had good games against PSG," Munetsi said.
"The derby is now reignited because we won."
More importantly, Munetsi believes his spell in France helped him rediscover his best form.
"The best attribute for any player, besides talent, is confidence," he said from Wolves' pre-season training camp in Portugal.
"Going to Paris was to be in a different environment, to regain the player that I am."
His impressive displays reportedly attracted interest from Nottingham Forest, Paris FC and several other clubs. However, Munetsi decided to stay after being persuaded by Wolves' new direction under Peixoto.
The Zimbabwean said the Portuguese coach's energetic playing style is ideally suited to the demands of the Championship.
"The new manager has come in with a lot of fire, and it's been seen with the training sessions," Munetsi said.
"When he was in Portugal, he was managing two of my former teammates, so I used to watch a couple of his games.
"The way he plays, there's a lot of intensity—a lot of energy comes from his team—and this is exactly what we need in the Championship."
Munetsi said discussions with the club's hierarchy reinforced his belief in Wolves' long-term project and convinced him there was unfinished business after last season's relegation.
"When I first signed here the main objective was to stay in the Premier League and last season we were not able to do that," he said.
"The objective for the club now is getting back... the club deserves to be in the top flight."
Although he enjoyed life in Paris with his family, Munetsi admitted he is happy to return to the quieter surroundings of Wolverhampton.
"Wolverhampton is a quiet city, and I like to be in a quiet environment," he said.
"The countryside is more of my lifestyle. I also enjoy being here."
With pre-season preparations nearing completion in Portugal, Munetsi is expected to play a central role as Wolves launch their Championship campaign, with promotion back to the Premier League firmly established as the club's primary objective.
Wolves begin their new season at Molineux against Blackburn Rovers on August 14, with Munetsi expected to anchor the midfield in what the club hopes will be a successful promotion campaign.
