Soldier held over US$1,500 drug bust

A Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) soldier stationed at Four Infantry Brigade in Masvingo has been remanded in custody after he was allegedly found in possession of cocaine, crystal methamphetamine and cannabis with a combined street value of approximately US$1,500.

Tatenda Luckson Munetsi (38), of Runyararo West, Masvingo, appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Pauline Nyalenda, who remanded him in custody until next Tuesday.

Munetsi was arrested on Saturday and is jointly charged with his brother, Ashton Munetsi (30), and Amara Tracy Choruwa (34), of Runyararo South West, Masvingo.

The State alleges that detectives received information that Choruwa was selling illicit drugs and set up a sting operation by posing as prospective buyers seeking to purchase cocaine.

According to prosecutors, Choruwa agreed to meet the supposed buyers at SanSiro Club, where detectives identified themselves and searched her.

The search allegedly led to the recovery of two sachets of cocaine, resulting in her arrest.

The State further alleges that during questioning, Choruwa identified Munetsi as her supplier. Detectives then allegedly used her cellphone to arrange a meeting with him at Gomba shops.

When detectives arrived at the agreed location, Munetsi and his brother were allegedly seated in a Nissan March vehicle.

A search of the vehicle allegedly led to the recovery of 3.2 kilograms of cannabis, seven grams of cocaine, and 10 grams of crystal methamphetamine, leading to the arrest of the two brothers.

The seized drugs have an estimated street value of US$1,500, according to the prosecution.
