Chivayo-gifted Land Cruiser in fatal crash

A Toyota Land Cruiser 300 ZX gifted by businessman Wicknell Chivayo to the late Bishop Paul Mwazha for his 107th birthday in October 2025 was involved in a fatal accident along the Harare-Masvingo Highway yesterday evening.

The vehicle, which is owned by Bishop Mwazha's son, Ngoni Mwazha, was travelling towards Harare when the accident occurred at around 8pm, a few kilometres after Featherstone.

Ngoni Mwazha was reportedly in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

According to witnesses, the Land Cruiser was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it collided head-on with a scotch cart.

The driver of the Land Cruiser sustained serious injuries, while the man leading the scotch cart died at the scene.

One witness said the man who died had been taking another person to hospital in the scotch cart when the collision occurred.

"Bad news. One person died on the spot, anga akatungamira mombe wacho. Mukomana uyu anga achitoendesa umwe munhu kuchipatara ari mungoro and arohwa iye nemombe head-on dzikakandirwa kwadaro ukoo," the witness said.

The witness added that the scotch cart and its contents were extensively damaged in the collision, saying the Land Cruiser could also be beyond repair.

Further details surrounding the accident, including the identities of those involved and the condition of the injured driver, were not immediately available.
