Former anti-sanctions boss accused of defying Chief Nembire summons over borehole scheme

MASHONALAND CENTRAL - Former Citizens Against Economic Sanctions (CAES) leader Martin Zharare allegedly failed to appear before Chief Nembire's traditional court on Friday over allegations that he used the traditional leader's name to solicit money from CAES members under a borehole-drilling programme.

Zharare had reportedly been summoned to appear before the traditional court to answer allegations linked to the alleged use of Chief Nembire's name in a scheme involving contributions from members of the anti-sanctions organisation.

The hearing was expected to focus on claims that funds were solicited from CAES members for a proposed borehole project.

Sources familiar with the matter alleged that Zharare did not attend the scheduled proceedings before the traditional court.

The reasons behind his reported absence were not immediately established.

The allegations against Zharare have not been tested before any court of law, and it was not immediately clear whether the matter would be referred to other authorities or rescheduled by the traditional court.

Chief Nembire's court had previously summoned Zharare to answer allegations relating to the alleged misuse of the traditional leader's name.

Efforts to obtain comment from Zharare were unsuccessful at the time of publication.

Further details surrounding the alleged borehole scheme, including the number of people reportedly affected and the amount of money involved, were not immediately available.
