A DOMESTIC dispute between a Honde Valley couple ended in tragedy after the wife fatally struck her hubby with a brick on the head last week. Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri, confirmed the death of Milton Sagumbo (63) of Headman Muparutsa, Chief Mutasa.
Catherine Manasa (38) of the same village was involved in a fight with her husband on January 27 at around 1pm. Manasa had left home in the morning and went to the river to do laundry. Her husband was asleep when she left and when she returned Sagumbo was not home. He came after 8pm while drunk.
"He asked Manasa where she had spent her day and she said she was at the river washing clothes. He accused her of infidelity and they had a heated argument. Sagumbo started pulling her weave while beating her, but she managed to escape," said Insp Chishiri.
He said their 11-year-old child went and informed her uncle of the fight. The uncle came and tried to solve the misunderstanding.
"After the uncle had left, Sagumbo started beating Manasa with fists and she picked up a brick and struck him on the head. Sagumbo fell down and became unconscious. Manasa screamed for help and neighbours rushed to the scene. Sagumbo was rushed to Hauna District Hospital where his condition deteriorated.
"He was then referred to Mutare Provincial Hospital where his condition further deteriorated. He was transferred to Parirenyetwa Group of Hospitals in Harare where he died on February 6. We urge the public to solve their disputes peacefully without the use of violence to avoid unnecessary loss of life," said Insp Chishiri.
