Mphoko impressed with ZITF displays

VICE President Phelekezela Mphoko yesterday toured several stands at the 57th Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) which is underway in Bulawayo and was impressed with the quality of exhibitions.
Accompanied by the Minister of State in his office, Tabetha Kanengoni-Malinga and other senior government officials, VP Mphoko's first port of call was Cairns Holdings where he was taken through a wide variety of groceries and wines manufactured by the local company before he proceeded to Tropicool, Tassburg and Lahama in Hall 4.
He also visited the Embassy of Zambia and the Zambian Development Agency where a number of companies from the neighbouring country are exhibiting all sorts of products.
At the Mpilo Central Hospital stand, the officials there told VP Mphoko how they were conducting awareness campaigns on different types of cancer, especially cervical cancer.
He proceeded to Choppies, one of the leading supermarket chains in the country.
VP Mphoko also visited the Zanu-PF stand where he was taken through different departments which include the information and publicity, small and medium enterprises, youth and women's leagues.
The VP also got to see the Joshua Nkomo Museum, KwaMuzenda and met a number of entrepreneurs who are undertaking empowerment projects such as weaving, market gardening, knitting and sewing clothes, interior designs and party regalia.
In Hall 3, VP Mphoko shared a lighter moment with Highlanders Football Club chief executive officer, Ndumiso Gumede.
He proceeded to the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) stand where he was shown a number of innovations at the Faculties of Applied Science and Industrial Technology.
At the Malawi stand, the VP enjoyed the sight of traditional foods and clothes that were on display.
The Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) also had the opportunity to explain their services, among them the renal unit, optometry, emergency and the dental units.
Zimbabwe Grain Bag and Treger Plastics were also visited by the VP before he proceeded to the Russian Federation stand, which is exhibiting for the first time at the ZITF.
At Buffalo Bicycles, VP Mphoko was told how the company is helping local people overcome the distance barrier to access education, healthcare and economic opportunities.
He also visited the Zimbabwe National Road Authority (Zinara) stand where officials explained that they were funding local authorities and the DDF to rehabilitate the country's roads.
Zinara, the VP was told, generates its revenue from toll fees, fuel levy, vehicle license fees, road transit fees, overload fees as well as loans and grants.
From Zinara, VP Mphoko went to the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) stand where government reforms are being exhibited to support local entrepreneurs and make company registrations easy.
VP Mphoko also visited the National Railways of Zimbabwe and the United Refineries stands.
