Zanu-PF national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere has branded protesters in Beibridge as being lazy people who only want to buy chilli from South Africa.
He said the weekend crisis is a very small matter claiming that opposition where bring the protests.
"The issue in Beitbridge is very small".
"Some people are angry that they have been banned from importing small products like jam from South Africa into the country.
"Some people are busy out here planting and auctioning their tobacco and working hard to sustain better living conditions, but other maniacs are out there burning warehouses at the border as a protest to buy margarine and chilli in South Africa" he told Zanu-PF supporters in Mazowe.
He further mocked the protests saying it was orchestrated by people who where angry because they can no longer chilli from South Africa.
"You have people burning down structures because they failed to buy chilli in South Africa, no, we do not joke around with the country to such an extent," he said.
A State warehouse with thousands of dollars' worth of imported goods held in lieu of duty payment was razed in a raging fire.
Cars held by Zimra were destroyed in the fire started by groups of protesters who fought running battles with police as they were driven from the border post.
