#ThisConstitution - #OurConstitution pressure group has condemned the ban of demonstrations which continue to be perpetuated by the police and government describing it as a gross violation of human rights.
"The people of Zimbabwe and in particular Bulawayo community condemns the 17th of November constitutional awareness campaign blockage by the Government through the ZRP militia heavy deployment!" said Abigaile Mumbi a leader of the group.
"In a bid to avoid the people to access the constitutions, constitution knowledge the government filled the intended venue with armed police officers, and military vehicles etc! By this incident the government demonstrated that whilst the country is in shambles due to corruption and several unconstitutional behaviour, they display their comfort in the status quo!"
She said Zimbabwe cannot afford as a nation to divert from constitutionalism for any reason !
"The constitution is the only document that carries our wills and aspirations! and in it our future lies! Blocking us from accessing the constitution or the information in the constitution is blocking us to our future!" she said.
"The 17 November block to access the constitution marks another chapter in us as the people of this great nation! We are now expected to live as they please ! Behave in according to their prescription in our mother land! They have overshadowed the rule of law!"
"This is time for us to rise with one voice and say no to this monster! This is the time to define our future and stop this madness. This is the moment to defend our existence as a people. This is the time to defend our drowning constitution!" she added.
The group had planned to conduct a demonstration on November 17 to push the government to respect the new constitution and allow people to exercise their rights.
