Once again we are dismayed by the presence of traditional chiefs in chiefs regalia at the ongoing $4 million Zanu Pf annual meeting. It is indeed failing to respect their non partisan role in a democratic Zimbabwe.Chiefs have reduced themselves to appendages and prisoners of Zanu Pf .T

hey have became prisoners and subbordinate to patronage system.

Zanu Pf has captured the state and blatantly police and chaperone Chiefs towards  its power retention agenda.

Chiefs have been reduced to charity cases and are prone to abuse as their poverty is a Zanu Pf drawcard.

The recent budget as announced by Minister Chinamasa did not at all cater for the upkeep standards of Chiefs .

Their households , cultural edifices and events are not budgeted or catered for.Indeed it is a pity that Zanu Pf has dismembered and mutilated our traditional leaders to the point of ridicule .

Against this background of grovelling many chiefs like in the colonial days have become agents of  Zanu Pf power retention manipulation strategies.

Chiefs are custodians of our very cultural and hereditary traditions.

They are a  fountain of wisdom and should be our bastion of refuge and protection.

It is rather disturbing that there are now being cajoled and forced into violent political schemes through being exploited by Zanu Pf machinery.

DARE demands an end to caricature and mockery of the institution of chiefdom in Zimbabwe.

Chiefs are fathers and mothers to all subjects and should be independent of partisan politics and political abuse.

Characters such as Chief Charumbira and Musarurwa have been used to railroad and ramrod other chiefs for their personal gain.

A chief must be above Zanu Pf and not the otherway round.DARE condems the subdugation and deprivation of the institution of Chiefdom in Zimbabwe.

It is indeed sad to note once again that they have been shepherded to attend the Zanu Pf  conference .

We have it that a register has been compiled for attending chiefs and inputs have been promised after the conference.

Indeed the present goverment has failed the respect and prestige of chiefdom.

Today we urge Chiefs to rise and refuse to attend partisan events and only attend to state functions were their role is clearly defined and their dignity not compromised.

We call upon Zanu Pf to be decent and respectfull of our traditional chiefs.

This is shamefull  coming when DARE and other parties are clamouring for electoral reforms which seek to penalise the involvement and abuse of Chiefs, headman, village heards and subchiefs in electoral issues from voter registration to voting.
