Thumbs up for ZCTU on Mass Protests

Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) is the national labour body which leads most of the workers in the country. It's official position, dissociating itself with the planned streets protests by MDC-T, is noble as it reflects its proper alignment with national interest.

Workers are the most critical components that drive the national economy and implementation of Government policy. In view of this, ZCTU's decision not to participate in the planned protests, which have the effect to destabilize the economy at the detriment of the ordinary citizen, should be commended.

Workers have been reduced to mere paupers by the over decade long illegal sanctions which have been advocated for by the same political party. Workers have lost all their savings, retirees lost all that they have worked for in their life-time, and the ordinary citizens have been submerged into abject poverty owing to the same ill intentioned political zeal for the selfish politicians.

I am certain ZCTU realized that MDC-T's claim that it is a labour driven party was a false representation of matters. Since its inception and involvement in the defunct Inclusive Government, they never reflected any will to cater for the plight of the workers.

Instead, they took workers to be their enemies, especially when Tendai Biti was the Finance Minister. He is on record for rubbishing and shitting on civil servants' demands for salary increments and improvement of their conditions of service.

Reminiscent of that, surely, ZCTU has no obligation to honour the call from such a hypocritical organisation which is self-serving than being people oriented.

Tsvangirai and his MDC-T are devoid of any grain of hope for the nation as they have no tangible alternative policies in place in favour of Zimbabweans.

The obvious case here is that, Morgan Tsvangirai is power hungry, and he poised to use the generality of the public as a conduit pipe through which he can get into power as president. Anything beyond that is secondary to him.

But honestly, the ordinary workers are grappling with elementary bread and butter issues at a time when their buying power is getting eroded each day due to the declining economy which is on a slump. Therefore, further destabilizations would further exacerbate their standard of living which is already pathetic.

All along we have been waiting as workers to see if ever MDC-T has anything to offer us so as to transform our current situation. But waal, we can see our lives headed for the abyss should we be foolishly dragged into mud by politicians who have selfish visions which are at variance with our expectations.

Meanwhile, I think it is prudent that we focus our energies towards finding solutions which can extricate us from this current predicament.

We should not invest all our time in destructive strategies. We should never enter into another calamity such as that posed by the sanctions regime.

This is the time to realign our perspectives so that we all participate in nation building rather than calling for sabotage of the little that we have at hand now.

The recent by-elections held in Chitungwiza swept by ZANU-PF reflect that Morgan Tsvangirai has no capacity to garner adequate backing from the public on the mass street protests he is planning.

His support base is worn out, and he lost credibility on the political landscape since he is a decorated serial loser of polls back dating to the formation of MDC in 1999. The honest fact I can say here is that, he has never succeeded in organizing anything as a political party.

He organized a foiled mass protest dubbed "Final Push" in 2005. And his gross deficit on leadership styles disintegrated the party leading to its incessant splits which fragmented its support base till voters dumped it completely.

I am cocksure that many people will agree with me when I say MDC-T will never win any polls in Zimbabwe under the leadership of Morgan Tsvangirai. He has lost the taste of time.
