Devolve to bring back Zim migrants
19 Dec 2015 at 08:32hrs | Views
Today (18 December 2015) we join the progressive world in commemorating the International Migrants Day. It is on this day that we need to remind each other that there are over 3 million Zimbabweans who are economic and political migrants and are leaving under harsh conditions in countries all over the world especially in neighboring South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. These citizens of Zimbabwe were forced into being migrants not by the economic hardships or the political upheavals of the country but by the centralized system of governance which offers no hope for economic revival and political democratization.
We wish to remind our leaders and government that DEVOLUTION OF POWER is the only form of governance that will create opportunities for employment creation, political democracy and give millions of migrant Zimbabweans hope for a better and promising future. Because of that, therefore, we demand and call for the speedy implementation of the devolution law in Zimbabwe.
The problem of migrants was created by the centralized system of governance which led to political intolerance, lack of accountability, corruption, dictatorship and economic demise. Continuing to mantain and sustain this centralized system will worsen the push factors that cause citizens to be migrants. Continuing to sustain this centralized sytem will force more citizens to be migrants.
It is time for devolution. With devolution of power, our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, friends and relatives who are have been forced to be migrants will find reason and hope to return to their homeland.
Mayibuye i - devolution!
