The United Movement for Devolution (UMD) has declared that it stands in solidarity with Zapu and its candidate, Thabani Mlotshwa, in the upcoming Insiza North parliamentary by-election scheduled for June 14, 2025.

The declaration was made by UDM leader Lovemore Moyo, the former speaker of the national assembly.

"Since 2018, the UMD and ZAPU have collaborated on various political fronts, working tirelessly to end ZANUPF's grip on governance," he said.

"Through ongoing dialogue, our leadership has strengthened political cooperation and unity, recognising that true self-determination, equality, and justice can only be achieved with ZANUPF's removal from power. A key motivation for our support is the shared commitment to a nationally devolved system of governance."

Moyo said it is their well considered view that the people of Insiza North deserve a genuine alternative to ZANUPF, which has historically imposed candidates from outside the district.

"The people of koGodlwayo omnyama have an obligation and are duty bound to free themselves from the ZANU PF's misrule. The UMD calls upon on all progressive forces, individuals, our supporters, sympathizers, and the people of Insiza North to rally behind the ZAPU candidate, Cde Thabani Mlotshwa. Together, we can make a difference," he said..

"This forthcoming by-election presents an incredible opportunity for the people of Insiza North and Matabeleland to vote ZANU PF out of our region and forge a new political path. This is the time for the people of Insiza North, koGodlwayo omnyama, uMahlaba ayithwale to take charge of their political destiny by voting ZANU PF out of the constituency."

Moyo said the UMD wishes the people of Insiza North a peaceful and successful by-election. UDM joins the likes of Mthwakazi Republic Party and Freedom Alliance which have since declared their supportynfor Zapu Candidate in the by election.

Mlotshwa battles it out with Zanu PF candidate Delani Moyo, independent Leslie Dube, and Mbongeni Moyo.
