Residents in the mining town of Gwanda in Matabeleland South have expressed concerns over the sprouting activities of prostitution accusing some local lodges and hotels for fueling the destruction of families by promoting prostitution through offering accommodation to the sex workers who snatch people's husbands.
The residents said Tusanang Lodge and Phumulani Hotel were havens for prostitution where men instead of finishing work to go home they go and spend night with the ladies of the night.
"Homes are being wrecked and no one cares here," said a resident.
"Most men knock off at work and do not go home but go to have nice time with prostitutes in these lodges and hotels and this have destroyed many families here."
Another resident called for the Tourism ministry to shut down the two lodges for the sake of preserving the families intact.
"These lodges must be closed they are traumatising many families," said another resident.
"Many women have been left by their husbands who go straight to the lodges to enjoy with prostitutes."
But Gwanda Central MP Edson Gumbo disputed the claims saying according to what he knew there were no reports of prostitution sprouting in the town.
He said the alleged lodges were not working as brothels as claimed by residents but according to what he knows they are registered lodges and hotels who are operating at law.
"There is nothing like that," he said.
"According to what I know these are legally operating Hotels and lodges, they are not brothels."
