Address the Pay-For-Your-House Scheme

15 May 2019 at 08:18hrs | Views
Zimbabwe government to construct high rise flats - this is music to the ears of many who are still finding it hard to get a roof over their heads.

We hope and wish such rhetoric turns into visible reality. However, first things first, how about those who contributed towards a similar government project dubbed Pay-For-Your-House Scheme?

That project of the 90s was never completed leaving many without flats after contributing large sums of money over long periods. Follows ups and visits to the relevant Ministry have yielded nothing except cold shoulders.

As talk of a similar project gathers momentum, may government take time to reflect on what should be done with those who lost large sums of money to the discontinued Pay-For-Your-House Scheme. It would be a travesty of justice and fairness to ignore those who lost money in a similar project.

I urge the Hon. Minister of Local  Government, Public Works and National Housing to revisit the issue with the urgency and fairness it rightfully deserves. I contributed towards the defunct scheme for seven years but here I am today, no flat/house and no refund.

Some have since passed on homeless and bitter, may be hurried to their death by thoughts of their losses. It is only fair that government looks into the issue and refund us or avail the flats.
