Zanupf-ism, living In the past

21 Apr 2015 at 06:03hrs | Views
This week,  running down to the Zanu-PF independence day, one can hardly listen to ZBC, ZTV or read the state owned and operated newspapers like the herald and Sunday Mail. There is lot of liberation history, heroes and accolades to the supreme leader RGM.

Rural folks are being interviewed by all state controlled media channels to give us exact details of the battles.  ZBC is even showing some videos of these interviews.  These are some of the desperate measures taken by the liberation party government to keep reminding the people that Zanu-PF brought them independence and we should therefore suffer silently at their hand or as a justification tha Zanu-PF must continue to misrule forever.

Surprisingly these accolades are rosy and well-spoken of, as long as one belongs to Zanu-PF. Jabulani Sibanda was a sung hero whilst he was singing praises for Mugabe, the moment he talked about the Grace Mugabe's bedroom coup, we were told that his feet were never near the battlefields. Same  with Joice Runaida Mugari Mujuru. We only got to know some these middle names from a fuming, hate laden, Sunday Mail article, and this only after the her  fallout with the ruling  Zanu-PF government. While she still was Zanu-PF's darling, Mujuru's felling of the helicopter was a story dear to State controlled media. They will tell it as if it was caught on camera.

Now we are being told that Joyce Mujuru never downed a helicopter, in fact they say, she never held a gun in her hands. Actually, Muchinguri said, she was busy oppressing fellow young female liberation fighters.

Zanu-PF had all this information about her cruel acts, but still appointed her a VP. Had she not kept silent we the whole wardrobe of her corrupt acts would have been laid bare, or she could have been arrested if she dared protested. Of Didymus Noel Edwin Mutasa, though Zanu-PF knew he had allocated himself a lot of farms, they only waited to tell that to the whole nation after he was at loggerheads with the party.

Mugabe chided at Mutasa that he was a complete fool, for how could Mutasa decide to be embarrassed and leave the gravy train just for Joyce. Talk was also there from Zanu-PF media houses that he used to be a sellout to the Rhodesian government during the liberation struggle. That's why everybody in Zanu-PF fears Mugabe. He takes note of all the corrupt acts of his deputies. He keeps them secret as long as one cooperates and agrees that he is supreme.

Once one crosses the line with him or his Zanu-PF system, then ZTV, Herald, ZBC and Sunday mail will be given the green light to make these secrets public and to strip opponents naked. The Zanu-PF government will then even threaten to arrest ‘culprits' for previously ignored committed felonies. That's Zanu-PF and Mugabe for you.  Apologies dear reader, sometime I fail to distinguish between Mugabe and Zanu-PF.

This is how Mugabe reigns. He sees corruption, he conceals it. So we still wait to hear the Chombos, Muchinguris and the like's secrets unless of course if they chose not to act with folly like Mutasa. Mugabe has information about all corruption going on in Zanu-PF. If one is faithful to him, he won't expose him/her. So that the Mujurus and the Mutasas are silent does not mean cowardice, Zanu-PF indeed chronicled their corrupt deeds and if they do not stand down they really could be sent to jail.

Therefore Mugabe himself authors and fuels corruption in Zanu-PF through his ambition to rule until his death. His Principle is:- be as corrupt as you wish, only don't challenge me as president or I will expose you.

So even though Mugabe will lead the nation to ‘celebrate' independence, Zimbabweans have really never tasted freedom for the past 35 years he has been in power. On the 18th he will praise Zanu-PF for its misrule; he will say Zimbabwe belongs to Zimbabweans when it now actually belongs to Zanu-PF few. He will tell us that the west wants a regime change in Zimbabwe and will thank people for not wanting a new leader. He will talk of black empowerment when actually it is Zanu-PF empowerment. He will talk of Zimasset as if it is alive. He will stand in front of us only to oppress us. He will speak to oppress the people of Zimbabwe. He will say only Zimbabwean solutions to Zimbabwean problems. But underfoot his government tramples their rights and thwarts all opportunities for them to choose leaders they so desire. Mugabe is an accomplished liar then. When we will see him at that podium on Saturday let us remember for sure that he is not truthful.

Mugabe will do all this with impunity because there is no opposition in Zimbabwe. The government itself has failed to resuscitate the economy and it does not look like it will ever can. It does not look as if they have the ill to fix the economy. There is only one thing that Zanu-PF wants to offer, that it gave us independence. But such kind of independence is not meaningful to Zimbabweans, an independence that will result in them sinking deep into poverty and total lack of opportunities. It is an independence that is devoid of freedom because Zanu-PF does not want challenge.  When people are hungry and poor, Zanu-PF only says, but we gave you independence.

That's why now that we approach independence day, all state controlled media channels are busy trying to remind us how independence came about, and why we should revere Mugabe though he is incapable of bringing success or happiness to the majority of Zimbabweans. Mugabe has not been able, in 35 years, to develop Zimbabwe and build its economy. 35 years is more than a third of a century.

Instead, under his supposed watch, service delivery has deteriorated, corruption skyrocketed and infrastructure broke done due to lack of maintenance. Under Zanu-PF rule, Zimbabwean currency also crushed in 2008 due too poor monetary and fiscal policies. Currently Zimbabwe uses the currency of those who Mugabe wants us to perceive as enemies. Zanu-PF is a party of excuses, they will excuse their poor governance and cover up Mugabe's incompetence and instead, point fingers to very far away countries that actually may be enjoying hard earned success.

Zimbabwe needs leaders who are honest and ready to serve the people. The people of Zimbabwe must also know for sure that it is only their initiative that will see a change to their desired government. The congress has instead provided a successor for Mugabe. With meticulous planning crocodile has maneuvered and consolidated himself as heir apparent to the throne. Munangagwa says he, acting all alone, fouled a possibly catastrophic coup at in 1980. No one else, absolutely no one, except his runner boy saw how events played out that day. In other words, there is completely no evidence of the event, but it happened. So see, he too, brought us independence otherwise that moment would have been stolen.

So probably that would be another 1/3rd of a century under crocodile on top of Mugabe's third. By then we will be living in caves again and drawing water from streams.

Meanwhile Mugabe has also put Zimbabweans at very difficult condition to the extent that Zimbabweans are suffering xenophobic attacks in South Africa after having fled hard economic situations precipitated by Mugabe's selfish rule marked by poor governance, corruption, human rights suppression/abuses and very unsound economic policies.
