The late Highlanders, Zimbabwe Saints and Amazulu legend, Nqobizitha Maenzanise, who died at Mpilo Hospital on Monday, will be laid to rest Wednesday at West Park Cemetery in Bulawayo, his family has revealed.
Maenzanise passed away in the early hours of Monday after a stroke while at work and it is understood that he had also been suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure.
His sister, Noma Mabvaro said a memorial church service for her late brother would be held at Bulawayo Baptist Church at the corner of 2nd Avenue and George Silundika Street in Bulawayo at 0800, after which mourners would proceed to West Park Cemetary near Mzilikazi, where the football legend will be laid to rest at 1000.
"All his friends, family and colleagues are informed that my brother will be buried tomorrow at West Park Cemetery at 10am.The hearse will leave here (N21 Mzilikazi) and is expected at Baptist Church at 8am," she said.
Among the people expected to deliver graveside eulogies are the former Highlanders and Amazulu coach Cosmas 'Tsano' Zulu, Maenzanise's former mentor, trainer and family friend Philemon Dangarembwa, and his former Bosso teammates and friends, Mkhuphali Masuku and Nkosana 'Santsho' Gumbo.
Mabvaro said the departure of Maenzanise has robbed the family of a brother who respected family values as evident in him taking on the footsteps of his father in choosing a football carreer.
"Maenzanise took to his late father's footsteps. His father, Matthew Chigede used to play for a team called United Africa and a Zimbabwe select team called the Red Army as a striker," she said.
"His brother, Gibson 'Ndizamtshina' Sibanda was also a great football player and he played for Highlanders, Gweru United and the famous Rio Tinto."
