HARARE - Air Tanzania will this week inaugurate a new route from Victoria Falls to Dar es Salaam and Cape Town, injecting fresh momentum into Zimbabwe's tourism sector and strengthening regional air connectivity. The service begins on Thursday, 11 December 2025.

The development aligns with government's Open Skies Policy, which has already attracted 23 airlines to Zimbabwe, making travel across Southern and East Africa smoother and more accessible.

The Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) hailed the launch, describing it as a milestone for Victoria Falls International Airport, which continues to cement its status as a prime tourism hub.

"Airports Company of Zimbabwe Private Limited welcomes Air Tanzania Company Limited, the Wings of Kilimanjaro, as they launch their new route connecting Tanzania's Dar es Salaam to our majestic Victoria Falls on December 11, 2025. This triangular service, which continues to Cape Town, significantly boosts Zimbabwe's growing air connectivity, reinforcing Victoria Falls International Airport's status as a prime regional tourism hub and enhancing our ability to facilitate seamless multi-destination travel for both leisure and business visitors across Southern and East Africa," ACZ said in a statement.

Ismail Mpinga, Air Tanzania's Zimbabwe Country Manager, confirmed flights will operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays, targeting the tourist appeal of both Victoria Falls and Cape Town.

"We'll link these ‘brothers and sisters' in marketing with the tourism board," Mpinga said.

The launch follows government investments in aviation infrastructure, including the Air Space Management System and the RGMI Airport VVIP Pavilion, part of efforts to meet global standards under National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).

Zimbabwe's aviation sector continues to expand, with recent additions such as Qatar Airways, Emirates and Ethiopian Airways, underscoring the country's growing appeal as a regional travel hub.
