The Protest poet Bongani Ncube performed to the audience's satisfaction at Learnmore in Hillbrow yesterday. The Zimbabwean-born artist made to sure that his performance was polished. His wife and twin brother joined him on stage as he put more heat. The fearless singer has grown with age like wine.

It is high time that promoters should avail themselves and uplift this rare talent. Switchbod learnt that Bongani would be performing again in Cape Town in a week's time. He will share the stage with Zimbabwe's Mr Bin, Madlela Skhobokhobo, who is in Zimbabwe where he has gone to perform.

"I can't say I am a star because I have a lot to learn, but I am happy with my progress so far. Things are shaping up my brother, hopefully, lady luck will smile, and I get a sponsorship," Ncube said.

Supporters could not hide their joy. They see Ncube as a hero who deserves a lot of respect and praise because of the message of his songs. Khulekani "Xakalala" Ncube said he wishes that artists could be recognised and assisted financially. He concurred with people who say there is enormous talent in Mthwakazi that needs help.

"We have talent in Matebeleland. Our artists are failing to show their full potential because sponsors are not forthcoming. I do not know how best we can send the message to those who are financially stable to come on board and assist our artists", said Xakalala.

Though the turnout was not that convincing, Ncube said he thanks God for those who graced the launch. In whatever he does he believes God is in total control. There is nothing he could do besides asking God to lead him. "Those who came were the ones God wanted them to be there. I thank the Almighty for his mercy he has on me. I will work extra hard to release albums that are of great quality. I am more concerned with quality than quantity."

Some artists have gone under Bongani's tutorship. For instance, his daughter in arts, Gugulethu Ndlovu who majors in poetry, is destined for greater heights. She is a star in the making. If she is well natured, she will rock the world because of her energy and swift movements when on stage. The sky seems to be the limit for the girl who improves after every performance.
