HARARE - Dendera musician Sulumani Chimbetu delivered a lively performance at Mushandirapamwe Hotel in Highfield, treating fans to an entertaining show that also revived memories of his late father, music icon Simon Chimbetu.

The musician, popularly known as Sulu, performed some of his popular songs, drawing enthusiastic reactions from revellers who sang and danced throughout the event.

The show attracted several personalities from Zimbabwe's entertainment sector, including musicians Giant Tagarira and Jean Master, who were among those in attendance.

For many fans, the performance carried added significance because of Mushandirapamwe Hotel's historic association with the Chimbetu family.

The venue was one of the stages where Simon Chimbetu, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Dendera music, performed during his celebrated career.

Sulumani's appearance at the venue created a symbolic link between two generations of the Chimbetu musical legacy, bringing nostalgia to long-time fans while introducing younger audiences to the family's enduring contribution to Zimbabwean music.

Music lovers at the show praised Sulumani's stagecraft and ability to maintain the Dendera tradition while developing his own musical identity.

The performance also highlighted the continued popularity of Dendera music, decades after it was popularised by Simon Chimbetu and later carried forward by his children.

Sulumani remains one of Zimbabwe's most successful contemporary musicians and continues to attract large audiences across the country through live performances and recordings.

The Mushandirapamwe performance served as another reminder of the Chimbetu family's lasting influence on Zimbabwe's music industry and cultural landscape.
