International Coalition against Coronavirus-for African Development-(ICAC-AD) South African Chapter Chairman Chanda Chose has on behalf of the organisation congratulated the newly elected Zambian President  Hakainde Hichilema, describing his victory as a milestone and landslide.

Hichilema defeated the then incumbent Edgar Lungu and other opposition parties and was inaugurated on Tuesday.

"We proudly notch your overwhelming victory in our minds, with the pride of citizens who are assured of your undoubted dedication to duty on behalf of the Zambian and African people, who all await your rule with high expectations," Chose said.

"We encourage you to remain as undaunted by political, social and economic circumstances, as you were on the stony and treacherous path to State House. We stand with you in this great transition into a new era of hope, diligence and abundance, with a stout, resolute and focused determination."

Chose said Hichilema's road will not be piecemeal.

"But we are certain that your leadership skills, acquired along your checkered journey in business career path and social circles, will allow Zambia, in the future, to hoist you aloft for the world to see and appreciate, a statesman with a heart among his people," he said.

"That you are taking over reins of power during a global health crisis in which truth has been sacrificed on the pedestal of expediency, will undoubtedly make you cautious in the way you handle advice in pursuit of saving and protecting your electorate that propelled you to the seat you now deservedly occupy. We know you can do so without sacrificing principle or the collective wellbeing of your people."

"May the Almighty Creator hold your hand, open your mind and pour into it, wisdom of such proportions as has not been seen before in our sovereign freedom and independence. Have a great start to your God-given rein."
