25-year-old Lorraine Mpunzi from Boksburg, Ekurhuleni was heartbroken when she heard her three-month-old baby had died at creche on 7 July, 2014, but worse was yet to come.

Baby Ashley was taken to a clinic where he was confirmed dead.

Lorraine said when she went to the government mortuary, a forensics official told her that a sock was found in the baby's stomach.

Lorraine said the owner of the creche never sympathised with her or apologised.

An inquest case was opened at the Boksburg North Police Station.

To add to Lorraine's pain, on Tuesday she went to the cop shop to get information about the case and nobody wanted to help her.

"The investigating officer told me there was no case opened," she said.

"Even when another officer said he should double check, he told me he didn't have time because he was busy."

Lorraine said she was sent to Brakpan Police Station to check on the case.

"I walked to the station but when I eventually got there, the cops were shocked that I was sent to them.

"They told me to go to back to Boksburg Police Station," she said.

Lorraine said since the death of her child she hasn't been able to sleep.

"I think the docket has been stolen or taken away from the station. I don't know where to get help," she said.

Lieutenant Juanita Coetzer said an inquest case was opened and the matter was later transferred to the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Unit for further investigation.

"We will do an internal investigation about the allegation that the woman was never helped," she said.
