President Emmerson Mnangagwa arrived in Baku this afternoon to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29), a key global event convening nations committed to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The conference, which brings together world leaders, experts, and environmental advocates, seeks to address pressing climate issues, promote sustainable development, and strengthen international cooperation in mitigating the impacts of climate change. This year's COP29 is especially significant, as countries face escalating environmental challenges, including rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and increasing threats to biodiversity.

President Mnangagwa's attendance highlights Zimbabwe's ongoing commitment to global climate action and the urgent need for collective solutions to the climate crisis. The president's presence at the conference underscores the importance of tackling the country's own environmental challenges, which have been exacerbated by the effects of climate change, such as droughts, floods, and the depletion of natural resources.

Accompanying President Mnangagwa is a delegation of senior government officials and climate experts. Together, they will participate in crucial discussions and negotiations aimed at fostering international partnerships, sharing knowledge, and securing climate finance to support Zimbabwe's national sustainability goals.

Zimbabwe's participation in COP29 is a vital step in advocating for the needs of developing countries, highlighting the urgent need for financial and technical assistance to mitigate climate change impacts while advancing the global sustainable development agenda.
