A 19-year-old boy from Unit J in Chitungwiza was recently jailed for a year after breaking into a neighbor's house and stealing a small pack of potatoes worth US$8, while smoking marijuana during the act.
Terrence Kapikinyu (19) admitted to the charge without resistance when he appeared before Chitungwiza Magistrate Alois Midzi.
He was sentenced to a full 12 months in prison.
Prosecutor Munyaradzi Karimazondo told the court that on April 6 this year in the afternoon, Kapikinyu broke into the house of the complainant, Kanda Jaure (24), at house number 5938 in Unit J, Chitungwiza, and stole a single packet of potatoes, leaving without being noticed.
However, his luck ran out when he returned a second time, attempting to steal cucumbers, and was caught red-handed by the homeowner, who then handed him over to the police.
