A ZIMPLATS employee has been dragged to Mutare Civil Courts by his ex-wife who is demanding $180 as maintenance for the upkeep of their two minor children.
The two appeared before Magistrate Yeukai Chigodora. Narrating her ordeal, Tinotenda Milka Taderera told the court that his ex-husband, Simon Mudzingwa was not contributing anything towards the upkeep of their two minor children aged three years 11 months and five months old respectively.
"We parted ways with this man because of some misunderstandings and from that period he has not been taking care of his children. I don't know how he spends his $627 that he earns as his monthly salary. I pray that he should be made to pay $180 per month for his children's welfare, Your Worship," said Taderera.
Mudzingwa offered to pay $60 and told the court that he caught his wife red-handed having quality time with her boyfriend therefore he is disputing whether the minors are his or belongs to his wife's boyfriend.
"$60 is enough Your Worship, I don't even know whether the children are mine because she has the habit of sleeping around with men to an extent that I caught her red-handed on February 4, 2015. After that, she carried on dumping the first baby at my workplace indicating that, the second born is not mine but I am surprised now that she wants me to maintain that child. She was three months pregnant when I caught her with a boyfriend then she wants me to believe that the child is mine," he said.
"I am surprised to hear that she needs rentals yet she stays in rural areas where there is no need for rentals and I cannot risk staying with a cheat."
Chigodora advised Mudzingwa to go for DNA tests if he is disputing the paternity and ordered him to fork out $80 per month as maintenance for his two minor children.
"Concerning the issue of paternity for the second child, I would rather advise you to go for DNA tests on or before April 14 this year but however, you are ordered to pay $80 per month as maintenance," said Mrs Chigodora
