A BULAWAYO woman fears for her son's life following a war that has erupted between her father and former father-in-law about the fourteen-year-old boy's custody.

The boy's paternal grandfather Glen John reportedly surfaced after 14 years claiming that the child was the missing link in his family.

The statement which appears to be pregnant with meaning to the boy's mother and her family has forced them to refuse to hand him over to his paternal grandfather because they suspect he has a hidden agenda.

It is reported that the boy was raised up by his mother Cynthia Tombs with the support of her father Norman Tombs since birth.

When the Tombs family refused to give John his grandson, he dragged the boy's mother and grandfather to court seeking  custody but lost the case.

"As a mother I am worried about the real motive driving the John family to want my child  because all this time they were not there to support him.

"And the other thing that is so worrying is that Mr John is the only person who is making an issue while my ex-husband and his mother are not interested," she said.

Cynthia Tombs said Mr John lives with all his grandchildren, therefore, she's worried about his behaviour.

Mr John confirmed that his grandson was the missing link in the family.

"I started fighting for my grandson the moment l recognised that the Tombs family might be having a bad influence over him.

The boy now insults our family and I believe that this can affect his well being," said John.

It is reported that the boy does not want anything to do with his paternal family and refuses to take any gifts from them.

He is also asking his mother to change his surname.
