ZANU PF Politiburo member and Former Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa has told ZANU PF supporters that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is the sole candidate for the 2023 Presidential elections.
Addressing a gathering, which was also attended by ZANU PF heavyweight Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, Chinamasa said, "The problem with many African parties is that they spend too much time looking for a leader during every election. That is why in ZANU PF we are very clear that we are fully behind the candidature of President Emmerson Mnangagwa."
The former Minister then led ZANU PF supporters to chant the slogan: 2023 EDpfee!
Chinamasa's endorsements come at a time when there is reported bickering for power within ZANU PF with a faction sympathetic to Vice President General Chiwenga allegedly plotting to take power form Mnangagwa and put another candidate during the 2023 elections.
Earlier this week reports from Harare indicated that Mnangagwa is warming to having Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa on his government in a capacity that yet to be agreed upon. Mnangagwa's propaganda team including Government Deputy Spokesperson Energy Mutodi and Jones Musara were on overdrive conditioning Zimbabweans of a plan to have Chamisa within Mnangagwa's government.
Analysts say Mnangagwa wants Chamisa so that he the pact may make it difficult for the plot against Mnangagwa to take place.
