Hard working and honest, the late national hero Cde Wereki Sandiyani has been described as a phenomenal family person whose has left a void that will be difficult to fill.

A pillar of strength, endurance and dedication, the late national hero, Cde Wereki Sandiyani's family says he leaves behind a legacy perfectly carved to inspire many generations.

A eulogy on the late national hero made during burial proceedings at the National Heroes Acre provided a window into the life of a dedicated family person and liberation war fighter.

A family representative, Prince Mahemu said: "He was a unifier and he worked hard. Even after the war when he had lost both legs, he was the first to buy a car. He had businesses. I never saw him beg because he worked hard."

Even as the void of losing a father will never be filled, the late national hero's children cherish each and every moment they had with him.Daughter Patience said: "Baba had great love, that is the inheritance he has left us."

"Baba was brave and he worked hard," said son Norest.

Another son, Advance, said: "The greatest thing my dad did was sending me to school. He sent us to boarding schools and got us land to farm," while Cde Sandiyani's sister Tsitsi said he was a loving man who united the family.

Like one philospher noted, "Nothing is given to man on earth - struggle is built into the nature of life, and conflict is possible" - the hero was the man who never allowed any obstacle prevent him from pursuing the values he has chosen.

These were the founding values that guided and inspired the late national hero Sandiyani until his time of death.
