A recent report by The Sentry sheds light on the Central Intelligence Organisation's (CIO) secret revenue streams, which fund activities like Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ), alleged to have influenced Zimbabwe's 2023 elections in favor of Zanu-PF through intimidation and other malpractices. The report suggests that the CIO controls several companies involved in various industries, potentially serving as off-budget financing sources. These ventures have reportedly included activities like coal mining, tourism, and diamond mining.

The Sentry calls for increased oversight and transparency in the CIO's financial operations, recommending dissolution of its businesses and winding up its investment branch. The report advocates for legislation ensuring parliamentary regulation of CIO funding sources. Additionally, it urges the introduction of an online corporate registry for directors and beneficiary owners to enhance transparency.

Zanu-PF refutes allegations of irregular funding sources, arguing that similar practices exist among NGOs with regime change agendas. However, key figures associated with FAZ and the Information Ministry declined to comment or provide clarity when approached.

FAZ allegedly financed Zanu-PF's procurement of Toyota Hilux pick-up trucks for its candidates, highlighting the potential impact of such secret funding on Zimbabwean politics.
