Five Harare police constables, Dennis Tafadzwa Chivaku (37), Freeway Muninipi (33), Givemore Mucheka (32), Sharon Madondo (39), and Getrude Ndenga (32), appeared in court facing charges of abuse of office.

They were allegedly caught demanding a US$5 bribe from a suspected sand poacher during an operation against illegal sand poaching.

An informant reported the officers' actions to the Police General Headquarters (PGHQ), prompting an internal investigation.

A trap was set in Sunway City, Ruwa, where the informant, driving a truck, handed over the US$5 trap money to Chivaku. Chivaku then passed the money to Mucheka, who placed it in his vehicle's glove compartment.

The PGHQ team then arrived, identified themselves, and recovered the trap money, leading to the constables' arrest.
