A 30-year-old man from Kingsdale, Bulawayo, has been charged with robbery after allegedly assaulting a 60-year-old man and stealing US$450 from him.
Norman Moyo appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Beverly Madzikatire on Monday to answer to charges of robbery. Moyo pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He was remanded in custody to December 6 next year after the court was informed that the complainant, Justin Dube, was unavailable to testify.
According to court papers, the incident occurred on September 2 at Makhelwane bottle store in Bulawayo. Moyo, along with three other suspects who are currently at large, allegedly attacked Dube. The court heard that Moyo struck Dube on the right side of the head with a brick, before the group allegedly assaulted him with fists multiple times, hitting him in the face and all over his body.
During the assault, Moyo is accused of stealing US$450 from Dube's pockets. The group reportedly fled the scene before Dube managed to report the theft to the police.
Following investigations, Moyo was arrested in connection with the crime. Police are continuing to search for the other suspects involved in the robbery.
