Tatenda Chinoda Dhege, the Zanu-PF director in the office of the National Party Chairperson, narrowly escaped death on Friday night when his party vehicle, a Toyota Hilux Revo, was involved in a serious accident. Dhege, who works under the leadership of Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri at the party headquarters in Harare, was driving home from Buhera when the incident occurred.
The accident took place at the T-junction of Murambinda and Chivhu Highway. Dhege, who is also the former Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe Manicaland Regional Manager, was reportedly unable to stop at the junction. Sources say he veered off the road and proceeded into a nearby bush before colliding with a tree. The vehicle, a white Toyota Hilux with registration number AGE 2484, rolled multiple times before coming to a stop on its roof.
Dhege was returning from his Buhera office, intending to turn right onto the highway to head home to Mashaka Village, Chief Nerutanga in Buhera. The cause of the accident is suspected to be brake failure, though authorities have not yet confirmed this. Despite the vehicle being heavily damaged, Dhege emerged unscathed and did not sustain any injuries.
Manicaland Acting Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, could not be reached for comment at the time of publication. However, sources close to the incident have provided details of the crash, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The incident has raised concerns about road safety, particularly given Dhege's background in traffic safety management. The Zanu PF official is fortunate to have survived the crash, and authorities are expected to investigate the cause further.
