Zimbabwe is expanding its international partnerships with a strategic focus on Central Asia, as Vice President Dr. Constantino Chiwenga prepares to visit Tajikistan tomorrow for high-level meetings with key economic stakeholders.

This visit follows up on agreements reached during last year's diplomatic engagement between Zimbabwe and Tajikistan, where several economic frameworks were established to foster bilateral cooperation.

Dr. Chiwenga's discussions will include reviewing progress on implementing these frameworks and exploring further collaboration opportunities. Zimbabwe is particularly interested in partnering with Tajikistan in aluminium production, boosting agricultural output, and tapping into emerging markets.

Tajikistan has shown robust economic performance over the past decade, achieving an average growth rate of 7.1 percent, with a remarkable 8.4 percent growth recorded in 2024, according to the World Bank. This economic expansion has significantly reduced poverty levels from 32 percent in 2009 to an estimated 9.1 percent in 2024.

With a youthful population and strong potential in sectors such as agriculture, hydropower, and tourism, Tajikistan is targeting to double or triple domestic incomes by 2030. This ambitious goal presents promising opportunities for Zimbabwe as it pursues its own development vision to reach upper-middle-income status.

Dr. Chiwenga's visit underscores Zimbabwe's commitment to forging new international economic partnerships and leveraging global synergies for sustainable growth.
