4 hrs ago | Views

A 42-year-old man from Murehwa has been jailed after being convicted of raping his seven-year-old niece and attempting to silence her with vegetables.
Police said the man lured the girl into a garden where he sexually assaulted her. He then gave her vegetables, telling her not to tell anyone about the attack.
The crime was uncovered after concerned neighbours noticed the girl's unusual behaviour and alerted authorities.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) praised the community's vigilance. "We urge all citizens to report suspicious behaviour. Protecting children from abuse is everyone's responsibility," said national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
Child rights organisations called for tougher sentences for sexual offenders. "This case is horrifying. Offering vegetables in exchange for silence shows the depths of exploitation some children face," said Tariro Mupfumi of Childline Zimbabwe.
The man is expected to serve a lengthy prison term.
