Gweru man killed in hit-and-run near church, driver surrenders to police

GWERU - A tragic road accident claimed the life of 36-year-old Progress Muranderi on Sunday night after he was run over near Nazarene Church in Mkoba 14. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, which occurred around 23:00 hours along Chilimanzi Road.
According to Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the driver of the Nissan Note involved in the accident, Frank Rungwe (30), allegedly fled the scene. The incident was reported to ZRP Nehanda by an anonymous caller, prompting police to attend the scene and transfer Muranderi's body to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary.
Rungwe later surrendered himself to ZRP Gweru Traffic at around 04:00 hours on October 20. Investigations are ongoing.
Inspector Mahoko urged motorists to exercise maximum caution and comply with road traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.
