The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a tanker truck driver after intercepting a vehicle reportedly carrying smuggled pharmaceutical products along the Harare-Chirundu Highway.
Police said the tanker was stopped yesterday at the 336-kilometre peg, leading to the arrest of 48-year-old Elisha Nemaungwe.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a consignment of unregistered medical products, including 158 (50 x 10) Combo Pain tablet packs, 225 (10 x 10) C4 tablet packs, 70 x 20ml Lidocaine injections, and 5 x 100 ampoules of Diclofenac injections.
ZRP said investigations are ongoing to establish the source of the drugs and whether the suspect is linked to a wider smuggling network.
Authorities have warned that the smuggling of pharmaceuticals poses a serious public health risk, as such products often bypass regulatory checks meant to ensure safety and quality.
